REGATRACE is a EU-funded project that started in June 2019, with the aim of creating an efficient trade system based on the issuance and transfer of guarantees of origin (GoOs) of renewable gases, including biomethane. REGATRACE will strongly contribute to the uptake of the European common biomethane market by setting up a system for biomethane/renewable gases GoOs and national GoO issuing bodies in Europe. The project partners have also been working to integrate GoOs from different renewable gas technologies with electricity and hydrogen GoO systems, through integrated assessment and sustainable feedstock mobilisation strategies, which will also have a positive impact on the biomethane market uptake.
The project’s final conference will take place on 16 November 2022 in Brussels, Belgium, where the following key topics will be discussed:
- Implementation of gas GoOs and renewable gas registries during the REGATRACE project
- State of the art of systems for documenting cross-border biomethane transfer
- Developments for documenting cross-border transfer of renewable gas
- Policy recommendations for the uptake of biomethane production and cross-border trade
- Results and impacts of the REGATRACE project on the biomethane industry
